Arriving by ferry or by car in a Norwegian port and want to see the fjord from the water? Here, port by port, are the boat trips worth the day: classic cruises, silent electric boats, RIBs and whale safaris, with their starting price and rating. And, where there is one, the scheduled ferry that passes the same spot for less.
On three fjords, a scheduled ferry passes the same spot as the cruises. It offers no commentary and no stops at the waterfalls, but it takes your car and drops you on the other side: it is a crossing, not an outing. If you have to go that way anyway, it often replaces the cruise.
About 2 h 30 on the Nærøyfjord and then the Sognefjord, from 20 May to the end of September. Passengers pay for their ticket on top of the vehicle, from 675 NOK per person, and the crossing is booked in advance.
About 45 minutes on the Geirangerfjord, from April to December. Passengers pay for their ticket on top of the vehicle, from 390 NOK per person.
About 2 h 40 along the full length of the Lysefjord, to Lysebotn at the foot of Kjerag. Car from 142 NOK with AutoPASS ferje, passengers extra, and booking with Kolumbus is mandatory.
