A four-star on the Schmiedestraße, next to the market square and the town hall.

A five-star on the bank of the Trave, facing the salt storehouses and the old town.

Two lines to Sweden leave from the same quay at Travemünde, and choosing between them turns on neither price nor duration — an hour apart, hardly more. It turns on the departure time and where you land.
This one puts you in Malmö, on the Øresund. If the rest of the trip heads up towards Gothenburg and Oslo, Trelleborg is more direct. But if Copenhagen is the target, or if you simply want to step off into a real city, Malmö wins: the bridge is fifteen minutes away and the old town ten minutes from the quay.
Finnlines, unlike its neighbour, publishes an actual timetable. Three weekday sailings, one of them at three in the morning, which is startling the first time — that is a freight schedule, and this line carries both. A cabin is compulsory on evening and night departures.

From about €140 per person in a cabin, without a vehicle — since a cabin is compulsory on evening and night sailings, that is the real entry price. Sampled 6 October 2026. Pricing is dynamic and the vehicle is charged separately.
From 8 hours 45 to 9 hours 30 depending on the sailing. Finnlines advertises 9 hours, which matches the average of the three daily rotations.
Three rotations a day on weekdays according to Finnlines, but not all of them are bookable without a vehicle. Sampled 24 September 2026: 03:00 and 21:45 on Wednesday, 03:00 and 22:00 on Monday and Saturday, a single 01:00 sailing on Sunday — the 10:00 departure did not show up for a traveller without a car. Finnlines carries a lot of freight on this route. Do check the details when you book.
Yes on evening and night departures, and whenever a pet travels with you. On the 10:00 sailing it stays optional. Categories run from an inside cabin to the owner's suite.
It depends where you are heading. Trelleborg is more direct if you are going up towards Gothenburg and Norway. Malmö puts you fifteen minutes from Copenhagen across the Øresund bridge, and ten minutes' walk from a real city centre. The two lines are about an hour apart in crossing time.
